Future Plans for Professional Teachers: A Personal Journey

As a professional teacher, planning for the future often involves a mix of reflections, aspirations, and practical considerations. This personal journey of a teacher looks ahead to the next five years and beyond, highlighting the career path, teaching methods, and family plans that shape their professional outlook.

Current State and Future Intentions

In the here and now, my professional life as a teacher is a mix of contentment and anticipation. My current goal is to continue teaching middle school math and writing via online platforms such as Zoom. This not only keeps me engaged but also ensures that I can maintain my connection with students even as I reach the later stages of my career.

Over the next five years, I envision myself transitioning from a full-time school teacher to a part-time online tutor. This shift is driven by the belief that being around children retains mental sharpness and keeps the mind young. With the creation of Medicare eligibility, around the age of 65, I plan to retire fully from traditional classroom teaching. However, I am open to the possibility of substituting a full-time teaching role with part-time tutoring, providing select clients and maintaining a connection with young learners.

School and Classroom Commitment

My professional journey is committed to the classroom, and I see myself teaching the same subject in the same school and classroom for the foreseeable future. The monotony and repetition of my daily work, while sometimes challenging, bring comfort and stability to my life. This predictability offers the security needed to balance personal and professional life effectively.

However, my dedication to the classroom environment does not come without a dose of practicality. One area of improvement is the technology I use for teaching. My current projector, a reliable but outdated model, is at least ten years old and lacks the convenience of an external speaker jack. I plan to replace it with a new one that offers better audio and video quality to enhance my teaching experience for my students.

Role as a Parent and Grandparent

Beyond my classroom, my life is defined by my children and my future role as a grandparent. Right now, my primary focus is on my children’s well-being and their upcoming education. As they grow older, my career plan includes transitioning into a college professor, where I can continue nurturing and guiding the next generation of students.

In the event that my oldest child decides to have children of their own, I have already prepared to assist in their upbringing. If circumstances allow, I am ready to quit teaching and focus on helping to raise my grandkids. This unexpected role shift is considered a smart and fulfilling move, further cementing my desire to adapt and be flexible in the face of life's ever-changing circumstances.
