Expertise in Video Games vs. Debates with the Unqualified

Have you ever encountered someone who, despite having minimal or no relevant knowledge, is always quick to argue with you about your expertise in a specific field?

For me, this Battle of Knowledge in Video Games is a constant theme between me and my father-in-law. My father-in-law has a Ph.D. and is considered the world's authority on virtually everything, including topics for which he has done no research. On the other hand, I have a strong track record of construction experience, specifically working with electrical systems and maintaining my own vehicles for the past three decades.

The Battle of Knowledge in Video Games

When it comes to video games, I feel that some people lack the basic understanding required to engage in a productive conversation. Take, for example, the situation where I've played a game for 107 days and have accumulated a wealth of knowledge about it, only to find myself facing stubborn opposition from others who have nothing to offer in terms of genuine insight.

One particularly memorable instance occurred during a conversation with my father-in-law. After asserting my knowledge on the subject, he responded with a dismissive attitude, indicating that he had no intention of truly understanding or learning from me.

Example: "Fuck, I've been playing this game for 107 days. What do you think you know about it that I don't?" This attitude is frustrating and counterproductive.

Electrical Wiring Knowledge

Another area where I frequently face unnecessary arguments is when it comes to Electrical Wiring. Despite my years of experience and expertise, some individuals still believe they can provide sound advice on the subject.

Example: My father-in-law replaced an old electrical outlet in his house. He began by removing the old outlet, connecting the wires to the new outlet, and then attaching a pigtail to an ungrounded metal box. I immediately corrected him, explaining that grounding requires a proper electrical connection to the earth, not just to a metal box.

Expertise in My Craft

Despite having a wealth of knowledge in both video games and electrical wiring, my life is not defined by the opinions of others. In my professional field, Craftsmanship is key. The information I have is often accurate and up-to-date, but much of what is reported in the media is misleading or entirely false.

I don't seek their validation or to conform to public opinion. My focus is on the work I do and the tasks I undertake, ensuring I have the correct knowledge to do them properly the first time. This means a significant portion of the so-called 'discussions' I have with others are often about confirming or correcting misinformation.

Craftsmanship and the Unqualified

My life is dedicated to particular crafts, and my main source of pressure is to maintain the highest standards in my work. Whether it's electrical wiring or any other skill, I want to ensure that what I do is done correctly, as any errors can have disastrous consequences.

I also face challenges and debates when it comes to the Media's Misinformation. Since I spend a significant amount of time in my industry, I'm aware that a lot of what is reported is not accurate. This makes it necessary for me to continuously verify and correct information, often leading to further arguments.

Electrical Wiring and Expertise

Despite having a deep understanding of electrical systems, I have been forced to leave some projects unfinished. In one case, my father-in-law was working on a project to replace an old electrical outlet, and I pointed out the mistake in his method. He seemed uninterested in learning, and his actions put his home at risk. I chose to withdraw from assisting to avoid becoming part of a potentially dangerous situation.

Conclusion: While I have a wealth of knowledge in various fields, including video games and electrical wiring, the endless debates with the unqualified and their constant opposition can be frustrating. It's important to maintain a high standard of expertise and professionalism, especially in areas like electrical work where safety is essential.
